Five year MD program and one year internship. 1987-1986 Worked as a research assistant and a graduate student of pharmacology at the Dept. of Pharmacology of Cerrahpasa Medical Faculty, Istanbul. 1989-1990 Worked as a research assistant for Dr. Robert Adamec while he was a graduate student in Neuroscience Program at the Memorial University of Newfoundland (Dept. of Psychology/NFLD-Canada). He has taken two graduate courses in Neuroscience and one course in Research Design. Worked as a co-investigator with Dr. Adamec in studies related with kindling, anxiety, and effects of CRF on kindling. THE SPECIFIC AREAS HE HAS WORKED ON: •Physiological and psychological effects of psychoactive drugs. •Female sexual response and ESR. Neurophysiology and neuropharmacology of female orgasm. •Long term neurophysiological effects of neonatal seizures and febrile convulsions on adult epilepsy and synaptic plasticity. •Effects of opiates on synaptic plasticity in hippocampus. •Extracellular field potential recordings in vitro and in vivo; paired pulse recordings to assess GABAergic inhibition or excitation/inhibition balance [extracellular and intracellular]; intracellular recordings and voltage clamp in vitro  (dentate gyrus and CA3, hippocampal slices). •Pilocarpine model of epilepsy, paired pulse technique in hippocampal slices in vitro and in vivo. In vitro electrophysiology studies in the hippocampal slices of rats undergone status epilepticus. •Kainic acid model of epilepsy, electrophysiological studies in the hippocampal slices of kainic acid treated rats and biocytin injection. •Metabotropic glutamate receptors and epileptogenesis. •LTP (Long term potentiation). •Kindling model of epilepsy. •Kindling model and its effects on behavior. •Chemical kindling. •Epilepsy models by pentetrazol, picrotoxin, bicuculline, pilocarpine (and others) and investigating the effects of antiepileptics in these models. •Morphine and opiate physical dependence. •Effects of opiate dependence on epileptic threshold. •Anxiety and models of anxiety in animals; behavioral psychopharmacology. •Alzheimer model. •Effects of GABAergic system in epilepsy and behavior. •Effects of CRF (corticotropin releasing factor) on anxiety and HPA axis. •Estimation of certain neurotransmitters in the brain by microdialysis. •Roles of NMDA receptors on behavior, morphine dependence, epilepsy and learning. •Investigation of GABAergic inhibition in hippocampus (dentate) by paired pulse technique in vivo. •Epilepsy model by tetanus toxin and its effects on hippocampal neuropharmacology and electrophysiology.
