HIV/AIDS感染風險

考慮到當前HIV/AIDS的流行和世界範圍其它性傳播疾病（STDs）增加的因素，男女都應該要瞭解與新近偶遇認識的和不熟識的性伴經由肛交的感染風險。甚至熟識的性伴，如果他們另有偶遇的性伴，那麼他們也許不知不覺就已經感染了性傳播疾病或愛滋病。對於肛門被插入、因而接受可能受到污染的精液的女子，這種感染的風險最大。進行插入的男子所冒風險較低，但也建議他們使用安全套。異性肛交是HIV/AIDS傳播的可能途徑。
最後，我們應該提及還存在另一種有風險的行為：舔吮肛門（anilinctus，即舔肛、吻肛）。這種行為冒感染許多種嚴重的腸源性疾病的風險（志賀氏細菌性痢疾、阿米巴痢疾、賈弟蟲病、沙門氏菌病、寄生性蠕蟲感染，等等。）以及冒感染像淋病、梅毒和乙型肝炎等“傳統的”性傳播疾病[1]的風險。

Casual partners may be infected with HIV/AIDS without knowing it. Therefore, unprotected anal intercourse with them carries a high risk of infection, especially for the “receiving” partner.

In view of the current HIV/AIDS pandemic and the world-wide increase of other
sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), both females and males should understand the risk of infection through anal intercourse with casual, new, and unfamiliar partners. Even familiar partners may unknowingly have become infected if they, in turn, had casual partners. The risk is greatest for the female being penetrated and thus receiving possibly infected semen. The penetrating male runs a lower risk, but is also well advised to use a condom. Heterosexual anal intercourse is a possible path of HIV/AIDS transmission.
Finally, there is another risk behavior that should be mentioned: Licking the anus (anilinctus).
This carries the risk of infection with a number of serious intestinal diseases (shigellosis, amebiasis, lambliasis, salmonellosis, parasitic worm infestations, etc.) as well as the “classic” sexually transmitted diseases like gonorrhea, syphilis, hepatitis B, etc.
