電話性活動

隨著不斷增加的愛滋病流行的威脅，“電話性活動（telephone sex）”[1]於1980年代開始風行起來。通過撥打一個特定的電話號碼，客戶要麼被接轉到傾聽各種各樣的性刺激聲響（廉價模式），要麼被連接到慫恿他進入個人交談的活生生的女人那裏（昂貴模式）。在兩種方式裏，這個客戶的目的都是一樣的。他一邊傾聽一邊自娛（masturbate），而且一旦達到了性高潮，就會終止本次通話。為這種服務支付費用的方式多種多樣：最常用的方式是利用信用卡。在傾聽電話錄音的情況之時，特殊標價的電話呼叫本身通常足以支付費用。

Telephone Sex

“Telephone sex” became popular in the 1980s with the growing threat of the AIDS epidemic. By calling a certain telephone number, the customer is connected either to a recording of various sexually stimulating texts or sounds (cheap version), or to a live woman engaging him in an individual conversation (more expensive version). The customer’s objective is the same in both cases. He masturbates while listening and ends the phone call once he has reached orgasm. There are various ways of paying for this service: the most common is the use of a credit card. In the case of recordings, the specially priced phone call itself usually suffices as a payment.
Since the women working in this business only use their voices, their ages and their looks are immaterial. However, they must be sensitive to the customer’s fantasies and wishes in order to be successful. Telephone sex is “safe” and convenient for both participants. The women do not have to get sexually excited themselves and can remain emotionally uninvolved. They also do not need pimps, but can work either in their homes or together with other women in a call-in center. For many it is only a part-time job. In the future, the new picture cell phones could add a new dimension to telephone sex.
