Reproduction without Sex

Reproduction without Sex

As a rule, there can be no reproduction without sexual activity. Even for an artificial insemination, at least the man must reach orgasm and ejaculate. His semen must then be preserved for one of the recurring short periods when a woman's egg is available for fertilization by a sperm.

However, in recent years it has become possible to extract sperm cells from the unexcited male sex organs by special medical procedures. The sperm is extracted either from the epididymis (Microsurgical Epididymal Sperm Aspiration, MESA), or directly from the testicle (Testicular Sperm Extraction, TESE). So far, this is done only in very rare cases of infertility that allow no other choice.
