From Treatment to Prevention

Critical Introduction - The Meaning of Sexual Health

What is Sexual Health?

From Treatment to Prevention

The attempt to collect, analyze, and disseminate scientific information in the service of sexual health is part of a never-ending process. Our own emphasis is on prevention, because we believe that, in the 21st century, sexological research will increasingly concentrate more on prevention than on therapy. As the saying goes: "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure." By the same token, those who are interested in prevention will always prefer to speak about sexual health instead of sexual sickness. Seen in this light, the WHO, by daring to deal with this subject, has moved the professional discourse about human sexuality to a new, promising level.
