Critical Introduction - The Meaning of Sexual Health

What is Sexual Health?

Example: Sexual Rights

Even the concept of "sexual rights", which appears in the second definition, would not have been acceptable in 19th -century Europe and the US. Women, children and sexual minorities had no such rights, and any demand for them was vigorously opposed by the religious, legal, and medical authorities.
There was no right to sexual self-determination, to contraception or abortion, no right to sexological information or sex education, no right to non-marital sexual contact. There were no rights for sexual minorites, no right to a free choice of sexual partner. Indeed, much of this is still true in many countries today.
