“The marriage of immature girls is so customary among the Ba Kaonde that a Government inquiry was made into the matter; it was found that girls “are courted and wed between the ages of eight and thirteen, always before they have attained puberty… It is not uncommon for them to be wives three or four years before they are even capable of coitus” (Melland, as cited by Seligman)[1].
