Self-Injections
Until a few years ago, a common treatment of tumescence problems was the direct injection of medication into the penis. Needless to say, the medication had to be prescribed by a physician after a thorough physical examination. This may still be the treatment of choice for some men, but the development of "potency pills" has allowed many others to switch.

The injection of certain drugs into the penis itself can produce an erection that will last long enough. Most commonly used are Papaverine, a combination of Papaverine and Phentolamine, and Prostaglandin E1. Actually, strictly speaking, this is a form of self-treatment: The patient injects himself into the sides of the penis. In order to avoid damage to the penis, it is important that the correct dosage is not exceeded.
