HIV Antibody Test 3

Incurable STDs - Infections

How is it diagnosed? - HIV Antibody Test 3

HIV antibody tests can be taken confidentially at a doctor’s office, and in many countries and cities the tests can also be taken anonymously at various testing sites. Before and after such a test, people should receive competent counseling. In case of a positive test result, they should also help medical research to keep proper statistics. For health care purposes, a test result is meaningful only as long as one knows how the virus was transmitted. The person testing positive should therefore try to remember how the infection could have occurred. This will enable the physician to fill out an appropriate, confidential (very often even anonymous) questionnaire such as the one following here. (Please note, that the form avoids terms like “homosexual”, “heterosexual”, “bisexual” in order not to stereotype the respondent and thus to prejudge the case.)
