The current AIDS pandemic tends to overshadow the continuing threat of other sexually transmitted infections. Some of them are curable, but this may be the very reason why many people have become careless and now fail to protect themselves. Syphilis, for example, is spreading again and is infecting millions of women and men every year all over the world.
At the same time, this and other STDs make it easier for the “AIDS virus” to enter the body, and thus they also increase the risk of an HIV infection. The following sections offer detailed descriptions of the most important curable STDs. |
