中間性的原因

環境因素
|
除了染色體和激素的病因以外，環境因素也可能捲入了中間性綜合征的發生過程。在胎兒出生之前，放射線、化合物和某些藥物能夠對胎兒的發育產生負面影響。可是，這些環境因素如何精確地產生負面影響和它們在導致疾病方面怎樣擴展它們的作用，總也沒有完全弄清楚。在有一些病例，它們的負面影響已經被證實，而在其他的病例僅僅是懷疑它們有負面作用。不過，環境因素現在正在增加研究者們對中間性的研究興趣。我們已經知道放射線能夠影響染色體，也已經知道某些化合物能夠擾亂身體激素的自主平衡，我們還知道某些藥物能夠導致在孩子出生前後的非常嚴重的體格發育問題。

In addition to chromosomal and hormonal causes, there may also be environmental factors involved in producing intersexual conditions.
Radiation, chemicals, and certain medications can negatively influence the growth of a fetus before birth. It is not always known, however, how exactly these factors work and how extensive a role they really play. In some cases, their influences are proven, in others merely suspected. However, they are now of increasing interest to researchers studying intersexuality. We know that radiation can affect the chromosomes, that some chemicals can disturb the natural balance of hormones, and that certain medications can cause very serious physical problems before and after birth. |
