Sexual Aversion

The Treatment of Sexual Dysfunctions - Sex Therapy

Sexual Aversion

Some women and men have an aversion to vaginal intercourse or even to sexual contact of any kind. They therefore avoid all potential partners or even the partners they have.

Causes
Sexual aversion can have a variety of causes from physical illness and injury to lack of information, past traumatic experiences, insecurity, unjustified fear, resentment towards the partner, negative religious indoctrination, depression and many more.

Treatment
In view of the many possible causes of sexual aversion, each case is likely to be different, requiring different approaches ranging from surgery and medication to education, counseling and intensive psychotherapy. Indeed, the underlying problem may only be indirectly related to sex. Thus, the whole subject goes beyond the scope of the present course. It is more properly discussed in a more general course of clinical psychology.
