The museum comprises a number of buildings on the tree-shaded campus of a former school (exhibition halls, office buildings, sculpture garden, garden pavillion, museum shop and tea house, multimedia room, meeting rooms, guest rooms, employee living quarters, kitchen, and storage rooms). The exhibition areas alone cover ca. 4000 square meters (ca. 35.000 sqft). The collection shown here consists of over 1500 items (jade, clay, bronze, wood, porcelain, silk, etc.). Parts of this world-famous collection had previously been shown to great acclaim in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Yokohama, Melbourne, Seoul, New York, Rotterdam, and Berlin. The museum campus now offers both casual visitors and serious scholars the opportunity of studying ca. 9000 years of Chinese sexual and cultural history in detail. The whole complex is a scholar's paradise in the enviable tradition of ancient China. For some impressions, click on the photos below.
