Layng (1983:p27)[1]:

 

"Youths were expected to be chaste, and adolescent girls were supervised closely by their mothers. A young man needed permission from a woman's parents to marry her, but once married, usually without any ceremony, he had the right to beat her to death for sexual infidelity."
