Introduction - What is sexual behavior?

Our Definition 1 - What is “behavior”?

Before proceeding further, it should be pointed out that the concept of “behavior” itself is complex and needs some additional clarification.
For example, many writers distinguish between “overt” and “covert” behavior, i.e.

1. behavior that is “acted out” and visible (overt) and
2.
mere psychological reactions without any visible manifestations (covert).

Thus, in the case of sexual behavior, one could distinguish between sexual acts (overt) and mere sexual feelings (covert), and one could subsume both of them under the term “behavior”. However, this usage also has its drawbacks and, in any case, its implications concern only certain specialists. For the practical purposes of this introductory course, we do not have explore this possible distinction in all of its possible directions. Instead, we restrict ourselves to a relatively simple definition of our own.
