1. Sexual Self-stimulation

Basic Types of Sexual  Behavior

1. Sexual Self-stimulation

Atum, the creator of life
(After an ancient Egyptian painting)
According to an ancient Egyptian myth, the creator god Atum, being alone in the world, stimulated his penis and swallowed his own semen. By spitting it out again, he produced the first female and the first male. According to an ancient Sumerian myth, the great god Enki masturbated and ejaculated the life-giving rivers Euphrates and Tigris.

Human beings (and many higher animals) can very well become sexually aroused and reach orgasm without partners. Such self-stimulation is possible at any age. It may occur involuntarily while the person is asleep, or it may be brought about voluntarily by masturbation. In short, as long as we are healthy, our bodies are always capable of sexual responses regardless of whether we are in the company of others or alone with ourselves.
Sexual self-stimulation is, and has always been, the most common sexual activity in humans. It has been described and depicted all over the world since time immemorial. Indeed, in some ancient myths of creation, some divine sexual self-stimulation was seen as the source of all life.
