Reproduction and Morality 1

Introduction

Reproduction and Morality 1

Puritan woodcut. 17th century.

In spite of the biological facts, our culture has long held the belief that the only purpose and justification of sex is reproduction. This belief is still reflected in many of our religious dogmas, criminal laws, and, indeed, in some traditional medical theories. In short, many people have been conditioned to regard all sexual behavior that cannot lead to conceptions as sinful, illegal, or sick.
