Contraception

Methods of Contraception: Contraceptive Methods for Men: Condom

How to use it
The condom is a very effective contraceptive if used properly. It must be put on the erect penis before coitus (not just before ejaculation). At the tip of the penis, some space (a reservoir) has to be left to accommodate the expected semen, otherwise the condom may burst. However, any air in this reservoir or “safety space” must be pressed out first in order to prevent an air bubble that could cause some pain to the glans. Immediately after ejaculation, the man must withdraw his penis before losing his erection, holding on to the condom at its base so that it cannot slip off. The effectiveness ran be increased still further by putting some spermicidal cream or jelly on the outside of the condom after it is in place on the penis, or by having the woman use spermicidal foam at the same time.

1. Taking the condom from the package. 2. Putting the condom on top of the erect penis.
3. Pressing the air out of the reservoir and rolling the condom down to the bottom of the penis shaft.
