现今所称的性功能障碍，在过去有许多别的名称。对于这些“传统”的名称，现代术语学仅仅通过科学研究的进步就可以给予科学命名，因为科学研究使得人们对于人类性活动涉及到的生物学和心理社会学因素方面有了不断的深入了解。这就意味着，今天我们不仅用各种各样的术语描述某些旧有的性问题，而且领会和以恰到好处的不同方式定义这些性问题。

What we today call sexual dysfunctions was known by many other names in the past. Our modern terminology became possible only through the progress of scientific research that provided an ever better understanding of the biological and psychosocial factors involved in human sexual activity. This means that, today we not only use different terms for some very old problems, but we also see and define these problems in a very different way.
