女性的性反应与男性的除了基本相似以外，有一些细小的差异。有一些差异是基于生物的原因，还有的却是心理影响的总体原因与个别原因的结果。可是，就像在性的事物方面有代表性一样，对于每一个别的案例，要在生物基础和心理条件作用之间作出区分则总是不大容易的。

 

男（兰色）女（红色）的性反应遵循着相同的基本模式：A=兴奋期；B=平台期；C=高潮期；D=消退期。但是，女性的性反应模式可能有变异发生，譬如，多重高潮。 The sexual response follows the same basic pattern in males (blue) and females (red): A = Excitement, B = Plateau, C = Orgasm, D = Resolution. However, there are some possible variations in the female pattern, e.g. multiple orgasms.

In spite of the basic similarity of female and male sexual responses, there are a few minor differences. Some of these are biologically based and others are the result of general and individual psychosocial influences. However, as is typical in sexual matters, it is not always easy to distinguish between biological base and psychosocial conditioning in each individual case.
