常規身體檢查
萬一性功能障礙需要治療，所要採取的第一步始終是常規身體檢查。眾所周知，許多性功能障礙由醫學原因所引起，諸如解剖學結構的異常、性器官的感染、外傷、心血管症狀、器官的退行性病變、糖尿病和許多其他病變等。此外，用於治療許多疾病的藥物，加之酒精、煙和毒品等可能嚴重地影響到性反應。在開始任何心理或行為療法之前，務必要消除諸如此類的醫學症狀。

Standard physical examination
In cases of sexual dysfunctions that seem to require therapy, the first step to be taken is always a thorough standard physical examination. It is well known that many sexual problems are caused by medical conditions, such as anatomical irregularities, infections of the sex organs, injuries, circulatory and vascular problems, degenerative diseases, diabetes, and many others. Moreover, medications used in the treatment of many diseases as well as the use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs can seriously affect the sexual response. Before any psychological or behavioral treatment can begin, such medical conditions must be excluded.
