    Name of program:

    M.Sc. in the Theory and Practice of Psychotherapy for Sexual Dysfunction

    Admission requirements:

    Candidates must have graduated in a relevant subject, or have achieved the equivalent of a degree through APEL rating
    (agreed through Sheffield Hallam University).
    They must be qualified in a relevant profession, e.g. medicine, clinical psychology, psychotherapy, counselling, social work or
    nursing.
    They must already have some recognised training in counselling or psychotherapy and have worked as a counsellor or
    psychotherapist for at least one year.
    In addition, they must have the necessary personal qualities to make them suitable to work in sex and relationship therapy.

    Duration of program:

    Attendance at the clinic is required for one day a week (usually Thursday) in the first year and for one afternoon a week in the
    second year.
    Inaddition, trainees will be expected to work with clients in their usual place of work during the second year, and to make time
    available for private study and the completion of written assignments.
    Trainees will be required to abide by the BASMT Code of Practice.

    Admission requirements:

    The programme is open to graduates, health professionals - nurses, midwives, medical practitioners, psychotherapists, clinical psychologists. Every applicant must intend to become a Sexual and Relationship Psychotherapist. If the applicant and those in the social work field intends to remain within his/her professional area on successful completion, there should be in this area a fundamental need for the expertise of the Sexual and Relationship Psycho therapist either in an educational, treatment, or in a consultancy role.
    Applicants will be required to complete a detailed application form and Curriculum Vitae together with signed agreements related to professional conduct safety. Those shortlisted will then be invited for an interview. A thirty-minute interview will be conducted with represent atives of the profession and the educational institution. The applicant will be informed of the decision in writing within 10 days. A declaration of lack of convictions for sexual offences needs to accompany the application. The prospective student will need to sign a commitment not to practice Sexual and Marital Therapy without Clinical Supervision on successful completion of the MSc, and to apply for professional accreditation by the Britsh Association for Sexual and Marital Therapy as soon as he/she fulfills BASMT requirements for application.

    Name of program:

    Post Graduate Certificate in Sexual Health.

    The course is at Post Graduate level, and is designed for health and social care practitioners who encounter individuals experiencing sexual problems/issues as part of their practice.

    Aims of the course:

    • To develop a reflective, research orientated practitioner, who is able to provide safe, holistic care to individuals and/or couples who are experiencing sexual dysfunction/distress.
    • To provide an inter - professional environment for the critical and reflective analysis of sexology and psychosexual counselling and sexual health care.
    • To provide an integrative approach to both the practice and study of sexology, the outcomes of which will benefit both the student & their client groups.

    Course Structure:
    • Part time, one day per week, over one academic year.
    • Four modules: Biological basis of human and sexual reproductive activity, Therapeutic context & interventions in the management of difficulties with sexual health (1 & 2), The therapeutic relationship.

    Entry requirements:
    Two options available:
    • Possession of a health or social care honours degree or other qualification at equivalent level or
    • Portfolio of prior achievement.

    Follow on study:
    On completion of the course students can continue to complete a Post Graduate Diploma/MSc in Health and Social Care.

    Admission requirements:

    The minimum entry standard is a first degree in an appropriate subject (e.g. Medicine, Psychology, Social Sciences, Nursing) together with at least two years vocational experience and a basic understanding of research methodology in medicine or the social sciences.
    Applicants must have access to current, relevant case material for presentation on the course.
    Admission will depend upon the outcome of an interview and two satisfactory references.

    Duration of program:

    The course will be taught one day a week over two academic years, thus giving a total teaching time of approximately 480 hours. There will also be a research requirement and it is anticipated that students will be working on their dissertation outside of the directed time. Students will be asked to submit their dissertation within three months of the end of the taught year (i.e. in the October of the same year).

    A. Diploma in Human Sexuality

    Admission requirements:

    The course is open to graduate nurses, medical practioners, clinical psychologists, psycho therapists, health advisers and other appropriately qualified health care professionals. The entry requirements are a first degree in an appropriate subject together with at least two years vocational practice.

    Year 1: The course will be for people with a basic professionalqualification, preferably with some experience of counselling. This will include those who hold a C.Q.S.W. or have complete RELATE training, and others such as psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, G.P's, S.R.N's, R.M.N's, clergy who can demonstrate a suitable background and experience.
