Esteemed Sanitätsrat, immediately after my return from a 8-day health trip, I have, as agreed, spoken with Herr Giese (Hirschfeld's young assistant, ed.) and Herr Hauptstein and emphasized that all personal differences should be banned and forgotten. I also proposed that we should get together with Dr. Niemann for a meeting on Monday or early in the week in order to find out more about his negotiations with the foundation office, about their attitude toward us, and to talk about our own further actions. I asked Herr Giese to get in touch with Dr. Niemann for this reason. On Monday, Herr Giese informed me that Dr. Niemann saw no immediate need for this meeting and would, on his part, propose another date. I waited in vain for this until Thursday. You will understand, esteemed Sanitätsrat, that I must have an interest in obtaining, as quickly as possible, a clear picture with regard to myself. After careful deliberation, I therefore asked my lawyer to get in touch with the foundation office. It was a favorable coincidence that, among the 29 accredited lawyers, there was Dr. Fritz Flato, whom I knew personally, and to whom I delegated the task. Dr. Flato was told by the foundation office that it had no objection to my continued medical and scientific activity at the Institute, all the less so since their files showed that most of the income from my activity goes to the foundation and that I have never been active in cultural politics. Dr. Flato also learned that of the gentlemen hitherto active on behalf of the foundation none could be considered fit for the directorship - including Dr. Niemann. In any case, the director should not be a lawyer, but a doctor. The office is asking us to propose a suitable Christian physician, because otherwise the chief medical officer at police headquarters would appoint one. I have not yet been able to inform Dr. Niemann of this report by Dr. Flato, because he is traveling at the moment. However, he has since written that he intends to come to the Institute for a meeting next week. I will then inform him of Dr. Flato's visit with the foundation office.
Today I remain with my best wishes and greetings
Yours,
