    School of Clinical Sexology/ Specialist in Clinical Sexology

    Admission requirements:

    Admission Polocies and Curriculum:
    Article 1
    A School of Clinical Sexology has been established at the University of Catania. The School has as its goal the training of specialists in the professional field of Clinical Sexology and certifies the qualification as a Specialist in Clinical Sexology.
    Article 2
    The course of study takes four years. Each course year contains at least 600 hours of theoretical teaching and 200 hours of supervised practica. In addition to this instruction, the students have to attend assistance centers for the number of hours required for full-time medical personnel in the national health service. According to general regulations, the following university departments may cooperate in teaching at the school: Medicine and Surgery, Science, Political Science, Law, Literature and Philosophy and the Teachers Training College.
    Article 3
    Within the rules of admittance, (art. 9, 4 of the Italian law 341/1990) and according to the human and financial resources, structures and equipment available, the school is capable of accepting a maximum of . . . participants for each course year, for a total of . . . participants for the entire program.
    Article 4
    Admittance to the competition for entry into the school is reserved for graduates in Medicine and Surgery, possessing a diploma of qualification for professional practice. The admittance to the competition is also extended to those possessing a degree obtained at a foreign university which is accepted by the competent Italian academic authorities. This does not apply in cases where specific qualifications are required.
    Articel 5
    The school council determines the content of the course of specialization in conformity with the didactic regulations of the university and respecting academic freedom. The council therefore determines:
    A) the didactic forms, including laboratory work and ohter practica,
    B) the sequence and length of individual teaching units.
    Article 6
    In determing the study plan, according to Art. 5 above, the school council recognizes the following disciplines:

    Article 7
    At the beginning of each course, participants will be asked to discuss with the sschool council the coice of optional courses, with must be oriented towards the specialization. There also has to be an discussion about experimental laboratory work, which will be guided by a chairman to be nominated by the school council. The school council may recognize suitable, documented activities at foreign universities or non-university laboratories.
    Article 8
    The university, acting on poposals by the school council, stablishes standards with the purpose of subsidizing or using non-university strucures as the site of didactive activities for our students, (according to the DPR July 11, n. 382 and DPR March 10, 1982 n. 162, of Italian law).
    Article 9
    In order to be admitted to the final examination and to receive a diploma, students must prove completion of all required courses and practica. This is upon proof of having personally undertaken:
    Clinical-diagnostic interventions
    Sexological counseling
    Sexological psychotherapy
    Pharmacotherapy
    Surgical therapy
