Name of program:
Postgraduate Training of Physicians in Medical Sexology.
Admission requirements:
Admission to the program is restricted to medical graduates in psychiatry, gynecology, urology, or exceptionally in some other field of clinical medicine.
Duration of program:
The postgraduate program requires a minimum of two years of clinical practice in the department of sexology. This includes at least tree months of clinical practice in related clinical disciplines outside of the student's chosen speciality. During the entire course of training the students remains in close contact with a consultant at the Institute of Sexology. Intensive course at the end takes 6 weeks.

The students are expected to participate regularly in the meetings and
seminars of the Sexological Society and the Institute of Sexology.
Content of Courses:
- Phylogenesis and ontogenesis of human sexuality. Physiology and pathology of
human sexual behavior and reproduction
- Problems of somatosexual development and sexual dysfunctions. Relationship
problems
- Sexual dysfunctions and problems in the chronically ill and the disabled
- Diagnosis and differential diagnosis of sexual dysfunctions in men and
women
- Psychotherapy and somatherapy of sexual dysfunctions
- Sexual delinquency. Study, forensic evaluation and treatment of sex
offenders. Evaluation, counseling and therapy of victims
- Gender problems. Counseling and therapy of problems related to sexual
orientation and gender ("coming out"
- problems of homosexuals, diagnosis and treatment of transvestites and
transsexuals).
- Paraphilias. Counseling, diagnosis and therapy of different paraphilias.
Their forensic and clinical evaluation
- Physical examination of sexual arousability and sexual orientation by
means of vulvo- and phalloplethysmographs
- Theory and practice of sex education for different groups. Collaboration
in this field with the mass media
- Reproductive medicine. Investigation, diagnosis, differential diagnosis
and therapy of male infertility
- Spermiology. Evaluation of a spermiogram. Postcoital tests. Homo- and
heterological insemination
- Contraception. Clinical aspects of different contraceptive methods.
Postcoital contraception. Sterilization of men and women
- STD's. Counseling, diagnosis, differential diagnosis and treatment of
sexually transmitted diseases. Pre- and post-test counseling cases of HIV
infection. Counseling and tratment of HIV - positive men and women
- Legal and ethical aspects of human sexuality and sexology
- Collaboration with related clinical disciplines (gynaecology, urology,
endocrinology).

oral examination:
The training ends with an oral examination by a special commission. Members of this commission are clinical sexologists, representatives of the Czech Medical Association and of the Sexological Society as well as of the Institute. Part of the examination is a discussion of the course work and of the results of the candidate's clinical practice. In addition, the candidate will have to answer questions in the following areas: History of sexology, sexual dysfunctions, sexual deviations and delinquency, reproductive medicine.

For the completion of the program a dissertation on a sexological topic is required. This dissertation must be defended before the Institute of Sexology.
